The Detroit Red Wings were dominated territorially Tuesday, leading to a wide shots disparity.
It didn’t matter because they had the equalizer in Alex Lyon. He made 29 saves for his fourth career shutout in a 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders at UBS Arena.
The Red Wings (3-3-0) have won two in a row, largely due to Lyon, who has stopped 56-of-58 shots in winning back-to-back games.
Patrick Kane scored the lone goal as Detroit recorded only 11 shots.
The Red Wings had to kill an interference penalty on Erik Gustafsson with 5:29 remaining in the third period. The Islanders didn’t record a shot and went 0 for 3 on the power play. They dropped to 2-2-2.
Kane scored his first goal of the season on his team’s first shot of the game at 8:54 of the first period. He one-timed a pass from Vladimir Tarasenko from close range past Ilya Sorokin. It came off the rush and was one of only two shots in the period.
The Red Wings host the New Jersey Devils on Thursday (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Detroit).
