Alex Lyon made 37 saves and the Detroit Red Wings defeated Nashville 5-2 Saturday at Bridgestone Arena, their second victory against the Predators through five games.
Andrew Copp snapped a 2-2 tie at 3:29 of the third period with the first of his two goals. It stood as the winning goal as the Red Wings improved to 2-3-0 while Nashville dropped to 0-5-0 and remains the only team without a point.
Vladimir Tarasenko, Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson also scored for Detroit.
Edvinsson’s empty-net goal with 1:17 remaining in the third period sealed the outcome. He flipped the puck down the ice from his own goal line and it found the empty net. Copp added an empty-net goal, his third of the season.
Marco Kasper, recalled from Grand Rapids on Friday and playing in his second NHL game, recorded an assist for his first NHL point.
Copp put the Red Wings ahead 3-2 at 3:29 of the third period. He was at the net front when Joe Veleno’s shot went in off his skate.
Larkin snapped a 1-1 tie at 3:17 of the second on the power play. Jusse Saros rejected Alex DeBrincat’s shot before DeBrincat corralled the rebound and passed across the net front to Larkin for the slam dunk. It was his third goal.
Steven Stamkos answered on the power play to tie it 2-2 32 seconds into the third period, blasting in a one-timer from the face-off dot. It was his first point in five games with his new team after signing a four-year, $32 million free-agent contract following 16 seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It was essentially a five-on-three goal as Moritz Seider’s penalty expired a split second before the puck went in the net.
Tarasenko tied it at 1-1 at 13:26 of the first period with his second goal. He one-timed a pass from Jonatan Berggren from behind the net. The two, along with Kasper, worked hard down low to create the opportunity.
Luke Schenn opened the scoring at 8:48 of the first, converting on a one-timer from the point off the rush.
The Predators appeared to go ahead 2-0 shortly after on a goal by Colton Sissons. The Red Wings challenged, however, and a review showed Mark Jankowski was offside.
The Red Wings visit the New York Islanders on Tuesday (7:45 p.m., FanDuel Sports Detroit).
