BAY COUNTY, MI – Democratic incumbent Jim Barcia is facing Republican challenger Kevin Shark in the race for Bay County executive – a position that carries a four-year term – in the November general election.

The executive is essentially the county’s chief administrator, with influence over all departments except those headed by other elected officials. The county executive appoints and supervises all department heads, coordinates county activities, and submits a budget to the board of commissioners each year.
