BAY CITY, MI — Bay City State Park’s popular spray park is back open after a brief closure due to a power outage.
The park’s reopening comes just in time as a blast of hot air is set to smother the state this week.
“It’s gonna be a hot one. We hope you can join us for some fun in the park,” park officials said Monday, July 24, in a BAY Alert about the reopening of Spray by the Bay.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, park officials posted on Facebook and sent out a BAY Alert stating that the spray park was closed due to a power outage affecting that area of the park. According to the park’s Facebook post, the outage was caused by blown fuses in the power lines leading to the park.
Power was restored after 5 p.m. on Saturday. However, crews had first to perform special tasks such as draining and refilling the main tank and cleaning filter screens before the spray park could be reopened.
The park reopened at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 23, but the spray park was shut down once again on Monday morning while crews from Bay City Electric worked on the power lines that supply the park, according to park information shared via BAY Alerts.
The park is back open just in time for families to cool off as hot temperatures are set to roast the area this week. The National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures in the 80s, with Thursday’s high expected to climb above 90 degrees.
