Dungeon of Doom mailbag: Latest on Jameson Williams situation, more trade talk

ALLEN PARK -- There is no shortage of topics surrounding the Detroit Lions this week, so what better time than the present to open the mailbag for MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast.

Hosts Kyle Meinke and Ben Raven discuss the latest on the Jameson Williams situation, with the electric wide receiver accepting his two-game suspension. The guys also offer their thoughts on the pass rush, and whether the Lions will go after someone on the trade market with less than two weeks to the deadline.

The Lions (5-1) host the Tennessee Titans (1-5) this weekend before heading to Green Bay to face the Packers the next week.

“No, because look, what we’ll do is -- we’ve still got -- there’s still two guys here, there’s really three, that we haven’t really rolled out there on Sunday and see what they look like,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said of the pass-rushing options. “So, we’re going to give them a shot. We’re going to give Isaiah Thomas a shot, we’re going to give (Al-Quadin) Muhammad another shot, he’s played in this league, done a lot.

“We’ll give (James) Houston another shot, so in combination with all those guys that we’ve got. Let’s give it a go, let’s give it a look, that’s what they’re here for.”

Worth noting that Williams accepted his suspension and released a statement shortly after this episode was recorded. Williams will miss this weekend’s game, and then next week’s trip to face the Packers in Green Bay.

“The news came as a complete surprise that I am still trying to understand,” Williams wrote in a statement. “I don’t take supplements or vitamins and I am overly cautious about even taking over-the-counter medicine. At no time have I ever taken something in an attempt to cheat or look for an unfair advantage. I understand that I am responsible for everything that goes into my body and I have to take accountability for this instance.

" ... it will hurt me to be away from the team as they prepare this week. So out of respect to my teammates, this will be the last time I address this matter.”
