GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Poke Toki, a restaurant that offers Korean, Japanese and Hawaiian-style poke bowls, plans to open a location in McKay Tower by January.

The restaurant’s menu items are comprised of a combination of raw or cooked fish with rice, vegetables, sides, sauces and seasonings. It will occupy ground-floor space at the tower, 146 Monroe Center St. NW.

“Poke Toki is excited to expand with this new downtown location, which is in the heart of Grand Rapids,” said John Chang, owner of Poke Toki. “We’ve been so pleased with customer response to our other restaurants that opening in downtown is a natural step in our continued growth.”

Poke Toki operates two restaurants in the Grand Rapids area — one at 5150 Northland Dr. NE in Plainfield Township, and the other at 4750 Cascade Rd. SE in Grand Rapids Township. The new location at McKay Tower is housed in space that was formerly occupied by Freshii, which closed last year.

“McKay Tower checked all the boxes for us – it is centrally located, conveniently accessible and in a high-traffic location,” Chang said. “We’re looking forward to introducing poke to more diners in our community.”

McKay Tower, an 18-story landmark office building built in 1914, is co-owned by investment firms affiliated with the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians and the Nottaweseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians.
