MT. MORRIS TWP, MI -- The sound of Latino music drifted from Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church’s San Juan Diego Activity Center on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church hosts the Hispanic Heritage Celebration to unite the Latino community.
“We have Latinos all over the city [and] state, but some of them don’t go to church here, and so that gives them a chance to come and visit...,” said Flint resident Aurora Sauceda, 72, an organizer of the Hispanic Heritage Celebration.
The family-oriented event hosted Loteria, also known as Mexican Bingo, and a raffle with proceeds going to the parish.

El Ballet Folklórico Estudiantil Mariachi performed multiple songs to the crowd, letting attendees sing along with them. One attendee even sang a solo to the crowd.
The food was made in-house and included tacos, tostadas, tamales and enchiladas.
Baked goods were available, including Polvorones Rosas (Mexican pink cookies), Conchas, and other sweets.
Though the event has been scaled back compared to previous years, the San Juan Diego Activity Center was filled with music, life and a bustling array of attendees, all eager to experience and celebrate their heritage.
The event has been hosted for about 60 years; it’s the church’s biggest fundraiser.
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church is located at 2316 Coldwater Rd, Flint.
