BAY CITY, MI – Local millionaire Jordan Dice, the same person who in the past year has purchased the Midland Mall and the Bay City-based candy shop St. Laurent Brothers, added a new possession earlier this month.
Dice acquired the historic State Theatre in downtown Bay City on Aug. 1 through an auction before a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge. He was awarded the theater for $960,000 after it appeared the building had been purchased through a Realtor by a northern Michigan businessman.
Now, roughly two weeks after having the highest bid, Dice has begun discussing his plans for the historic Bay City site – plans that include preserving its history while aiming to restore the venue’s original operations, according to a Tuesday, Aug. 13, news release.
“I plan to restore the theatre back to what it once was as a well-known venue for events and live shows,” Dice said in a statement.
According to the release, Dice wants to open the doors as soon as possible to allow the site to be used as a host to community events.
Dice would also like to have the theater operate as an actual movie theater, allowing for regular programming and new and old films.
“I am eager to be able to have the State Theatre up and running as quickly as I can, as there are several shows and events on the calendar already,” he said.
