GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Grand Rapids-area voters will be heading to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 6, to cast their ballots on a number of high-stakes local, state and federal races, as well as local tax requests.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday and will close at 8 p.m. Absentee ballots must be returned to voters’ local clerk’s offices by 8 p.m. on Aug. 6.
Scroll below to see live-updated unofficial results as they come in for contested races in Kent and Ottawa counties on Tuesday night. Refresh this page for the most recent unofficial results as reported by Kent and Ottawa county election officials.
In Kent County, voters will be deciding whether to raise the hotel tax to help pay for projects such as the Acrisure Amphitheater and soccer stadium, as well as millages for early childhood, library and public safety.
Primary races for judicial, county commission and state House candidates will also be on the Kent County ballot, as will those running for statewide office, including the 3rd U.S. Congressional district and U.S. Senate.

Ottawa County voters will be taking the first steps in deciding who their county commissioner will be in all 11 districts in several key Democratic and Republican primary races. They will also vote on several key tax proposals, including a library millage, a senior citizen services millage and several school millages.
Unless otherwise noted, each of the contested races below are primary races where the top vote-getter in will go on to run against the winner or sole candidate from the other party in the Nov. 5 general election.
However, in the Grand Rapids city commission races and the three Kent County judicial races, the top two vote-getters in the primary will go on to a run-off election in November.
Also, voters in Ottawa County will be choosing a new prosecutor, treasurer and sheriff on Tuesday. There are no Democratic candidates for those three positions, so whichever Republicans win the primary races will win those elections outright.
Once all ballots are tallied and the race has been called in each county, the winning position will be noted below in bold. A precinct is considered fully counted, or fully reporting, when all ballots, both in-person and absentee, are accounted for and represented in the tally.
Results will be updated below as they become available after polls close at 8 p.m.
