DAVISON, MI - The tension was palpable at kickoff as the rivalry between Grand Blanc and Davison played out in front of thousands of fans.
Coming into this matchup, there was more than bragging rights on the line as both Davison and Grand Blanc were unbeaten in Saginaw Valley League Red play.
This is the game, played on Friday, Oct. 18 at Cardinal Stadium in Davison, that would determine the champion.
Grand Blanc and Davison punched touchdowns in back and forth, scoring an impressive 21 points a piece in the first quarter alone.
Airborne TDs. Rushing TDs from quarterbacks. And as the half continued the rich offensive play calling did as well on both sidelines.
Davison ran back a kick return for a touchdown in the second quarter, and after a Grand Blanc’s defense blocked a punt at the 12-yard line, they showed off a what can only be described as a Ben Johnson style Detroit Lions shake and bake trick play, where the quarterback found himself on the receiving end of a touchdown in Jared Goff fashion.
Nearly a perfect offensive look from both teams in the first half, Davison led 35-34 going into the locker room at halftime.
Both teams continued the same effort into the second half, and the Bobcats outlasted the Cardinals, defeating Davison 55-49 on their home field.
Grand Blanc is now 7-1 going in to the final week of regular season play, while Davison falls to 6-2.
