Justin Engel is a reporter with MLive who covers a range of subjects including government, crime, education and entertainment in mid-Michigan and beyond. His work has been cited in undergraduate and Ph.D research, featured in publications presented in multiple languages, and highlighted on a true crime series now available on Max, the HBO streaming service. He has received first-place awards from the Michigan Press Association in categories including Spot News Story, News Enterprise Reporting, Features Reporting and Best Community Engagement. A Saginaw native who graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1997 and Saginaw Valley State University in 2005, Engel was raised a Saginaw News reader. As young as the age of 15, he aspired to join the company, and achieved that goal when he was hired as a 24-year-old reporter on Jan. 5, 2004. His work bridges the era of The Saginaw News producing daily print editions and the company's development into part of MLive Media Group's digital publication network.
