MECOSTA COUNTY, MI – A prisoner who escaped a moving transport vehicle suffered serious injuries, Mecosta County Sheriff Brian Miller said.
The incident happened around 7:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in Gratiot County while Mecosta County sheriff’s deputies were transferring the prisoner – who was not identified – to the state Department of Corrections.
The prisoner is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, police said.
State police are investigating the incident.
The prisoner escaped from a rear compartment of the moving transport vehicle, the sheriff said in a release.
