Reader Poll: Are you happy with Michigan’s bottle deposit law?

If you’re from Michigan, you know that you don’t toss pop bottles and beer cans in the trash.

For decades we’ve been diligently taking our returnables back to the store where we bought them to get that 10-cent deposit.

The Michigan Beverage Container Deposit Law was passed by voters in 1976.

It adds a 10-cent deposit to carbonated drinks, mineral water, wine coolers, canned cocktails and kombucha.

It doesn’t cover non-carbonated beverages like bottled water, sports drinks, canned wine and coffee drinks.

Michigan is one of only ten states with a bottle deposit law, and is tied with Oregon for the priciest deposit.
