LANSING, MI -- A Port Huron woman has a tropical vacation on her mind after she won $100,000 in a second chance drawing, held by the Michigan Lottery. The lucky player won her prize by scanning and submitting losing $300,000,000 Extraordinaire instant tickets into the Michigan Lottery app.

“I got a voicemail from the Michigan Lottery telling me I won a $100,000 second chance prize, and I thought it was a scam,” said 42-year-old Jami Hawkins. “I have only scanned tickets for the $300,000,000 Extraordinaire second chance a few times, so I thought there was no way it could be real. When I called the Lottery back, an employee confirmed my prize, and that’s when it hit me that it was real.

“Now that I have claimed my prize, I feel like I can start to really bask in the fun and excitement of winning!”

The drawing was held on Sept. 10 and Hawkins claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Mega Millions winner worth $1 million sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
