FLINT, MI -- The City Council has scheduled a special meeting for this weekend to discuss Flint’s American Rescue Plan Act funding.
A news release from the council says the meeting will begin at noon on Saturday, May 20 in the dome auditorium at City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St.
Council rules say two members of the council can call a special meeting. Saturday’s meeting was called by council members Eric Mays (Ward 1) and Tonya Burns (Ward 6).
Flint received $94.7 million in ARPA funds and has committed tens of millions of dollars from that appropriation to date, including funding for a massive demolition program and credits to individual residential water bills.
It has opened an online portal for organizations interested in administering community grant programs expected to be funded with $15.6 million in ARPA funds.
The city has until December 2024 to commit the remaining funds for specific projects and until December 2026 to spend the federal money.
