State House representative from Saginaw set for November showdown with Republican

SAGINAW, MI — State House Rep. Amos O’Neal now knows which Republican he will face in the November primary election.

GOP candidates Geoffrey Weil and Robert E. Zelle faced off during the Tuesday, Aug. 6, primary election for the District 94 seat in the state House of Representatives. Voters chose Zelle, 1,969 votes to 1,168, according to unofficial results.

The victory for Zelle means the Republican next will advance to the November general election, when voters will choose between him and O’Neal, the seat’s incumbent Democrat who faced no primary opponent.

Since 2020, O’Neal has served in the state House. Today, he represents District 94, which covers Saginaw and parts of the townships of Bridgeport, Buena Vista, Carrollton and Saginaw.

O’Neal handily won both of his previous general election bids for the state House, besting his GOP opponents by more than twice as many votes in 2020 and 2022.

Election officials consider the initial election results as an unofficial tally. Official results will follow the certification process from state and county election officials.
