KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Terry Haines defeated Nicole Sabel in the Tuesday, Aug. 6, Republican primary for Michigan’s 41st House district.
Haines will now go on to face Democratic incumbent Julie Rogers in the Nov. 5 general election.
Haines received 1,153 votes (59.7%) and Sabel received 777 votes (40.3%), according to unofficial results.

The 41st district includes a portion of the city of Kalamazoo, as well as parts of Kalamazoo Township and the city of Portage.
Haines previously ran for the seat in 2022, defeating Benjamin Stanley in the Republican primary, before losing to Rogers in the general election with Rogers taking 77% of the vote.
Haines has a bachelor’s from Central Michigan University, and told the League of Women Voters in a survey response he has 35 years of involvement in politics. Now retired, he worked in an office, in the security field and in education, he said. His website is cteterryhaines.com.

Sabel also made a foray into the political battlefield in 2022. After running unopposed in a Republican primary race in 2022, she lost the general election for Kalamazoo County Commissioner in District 3, losing to Democrat Monteze Morales, with Morales taking 74% of the vote.
Sabel is a small business owner who attended the University of Portland. She also has experience working in commercial and residential real estate.
