Texas did nothing to lessen the hype of next week’s visit to Michigan Stadium. The fourth-ranked Longhorns dominated their season opener, shutting out Colorado State 52-0 in Austin. After a slow start, Texas led 31-0 at half and kept rolling.

Michigan opens at home against Fresno State on Saturday night (7:34 p.m. ET, NBC).

Heisman Trophy candidate Quinn Ewers completed 20 of 27 passes for 260 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. His much-heralded backup, sophomore Arch Manning, was 5 for 6 for 95 yards and a touchdown through the air and on the ground.

Eleven different Longhorns caught a pass, while Jerrick Gibson and Jaydon Blue shared the bulk of the carries. They combined for 21 carries for 124 yards. Gibson, a freshman, had a touchdown. There were concerns about the ground game given preseason injuries to the top two running backs.

Colorado State managed just 192 total yards, though running back Justin Marshall tallied 106 rushing yards. Until their final drive, the Rams had made it past midfield just once, reaching the Texas 49-yard line. They got to the Texas 17 before an interception allowed Texas to kneel twice and end the game.

The Texas-Michigan game is set for a noon ET kickoff on FOX. ESPN’s College GameDay pregame will show in Ann Arbor for what figures to be a top-10 showdown.
