MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI - Whether you’re opting for a scary or goofy Halloween costume, parents in the Muskegon area are already planning for a fun night of trick-or-treating.
This year, the spooky annual holiday falls on Thursday, Oct. 31. Since it is during the school week, many families are determining the best time for their children to walk the neighborhood in their costumes.
Most municipalities will have official trick-or-treating hours on Oct. 31, but some events and activities are held the week prior.

- Muskegon: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Muskegon Heights: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Norton Shores: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Roosevelt Park: 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Whitehall: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Montague: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Fruitport Charter Township: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31
- Village of Spring Lake: 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31. Business trick-or-treating hours are from 4-6 p.m.
Trunk-or-Treat Events
For families in the Muskegon area looking for an alternative to the traditional door-to-door, there are various trunk-or-treat events across the county. Here are some events beginning this week and next:
- Wednesday, Oct. 23 - Trunk or Treat?! at Muskegon County Fairgrounds, 6621 Heights Ravenna Road in Fruitport, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 25 - Salvation Army of Muskegon Halloween Celebration, 1221 Shonat St., 2 to 4 p.m.
- Friday, Oct. 25 - Trunk or Treat at White Lake Center, 3311 E. Colby St. in Whitehall, at 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 26 - Trunk or Treat at Hot Rod Harley-Davidson, 149 Shoreline Dr., 4 to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Oct. 26 - Trunk or Treat with Lakeshore Legacy Project in downtown Muskegon, Western Avenue and First to Third Street, 6 to 8 p.m.
- Sunday, Oct. 27 - Trunk or Treat So Others Can Eat at Laketon Bethel, 1568 W. Giles Rd., 3 to 4:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 29 - Wesco’s Annual Trunk or Treat, 1858 Ruddiman Dr., 6 to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 30 - The Shores of Roosevelt Park Trunk or Treat, 3050 Maple Grove Road, 5 to 7 p.m.
