OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A female passenger was airlifted from the scene of a crash with critical injuries in Ottawa County on Saturday morning.
Two other people were also injured in the crash.
The two-car crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at 56th Avenue and Wilson Street in Polkton Township, according to a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies said a 2010 Mercury Mariner, driven by a 55-year-old man from West Olive, did not stop at the stop sign on eastbound Wilson Street and collided with a 2015 Ford F-250 pulling a utility trailer, which was traveling south on 56th Avenue.
Both cars ended up in a ditch on the east side of 56th Avenue as a result of the crash, police said.
Sheriff’s deputies said both occupants of the Mariner were pinned inside the vehicle and extricated by firefighters on the scene.
The West Olive man, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the hospital was serious injuries from the crash, police said. The passenger, a 62-year-old woman from West Olive, was flown to the hospital by Aeromed with critical injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.
The driver of the Ford, a 57-year-old Ravenna man, was also injured in the crash but was treated and released at the scene. Sheriff’s deputies said the man was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by Polkton Township Fire/Rescue, Wright-Tallmadge Township Fire/Rescue, Ravenna Fire and Aeromed.
