JACKSON, MI – A Jackson woman was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a car backing out of a parking space struck her.
Rescue crews were called at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 to the Family Dollar at 1521 E. Michigan Ave. for a report of a car hitting a pedestrian, Jackson Director of Police and Fire Services Elmer Hitt said.
Crews arrived to find the woman, 69. She had been walking through the parking lot at the time of the impact, Hitt said.
The woman was taken to nearby Henry Ford Jackson Hospital to be treated for injures not considered life-threatening, Hitt said.
There was no indication the driver, a 36-year-old woman, was impaired or intended to strike the woman.
“It sounds like she simply did not see the lady walking,” Hitt said.
