LANSING, MI -- A lucky player from Georgia has won the Powerball jackpot, bringing home a prize of $478.2 million for the drawing held on Wednesday, Oct. 23. That means the drawing on Saturday, Oct. 26 will be worth $20 million.
The win marks the eighth time in 2024 that someone has won a Powerball jackpot and the first time since a player in California won on Aug. 19.
The winning numbers are: 2-15-27-29-39
Powerball: 20
Power Play: 2
Powerball winners for Oct. 24:
- Along with the grand prize winner, two tickets sold matched all five white numbers drawn to win $1 million in the drawing. Those tickets were sold in Pennsylvania and Texas.
- However, neither of those players also played the Power Play option, which would have increased their winnings to $2 million.
- In Michigan, one ticket sold won $50,000 in the drawing. That was the largest prize won in the state.
- 616,153 tickets sold won at least $4 in the drawing.
Powerball is offered in 45 States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Players select five white numbers from (1 to 69) and one red ball (1 to 26). Tickets cost $2 each.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.
And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Mega Millions winner worth $1 million sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
